Pond plants

Perhaps the most popular of all pond plants is the water lily. Still, it comes in a variety of shapes and colors so don't feel limited when shopping for this flower. In addition, you can add other plants like the leafier Hornwort tear Garden.

When submerging pond plants such as water lilies used plant baskets. By putting the plant in a basket you have much easier access if the plant has to be removed. Another tip for water lilies: submerge them anywhere from 3 to 6 inches but note that others may need to be submerged as much as 3 feet when they are young. Ask your garden center for more tips and advice.

If you purchase oxygenating pond plants you will want to submerge them. Oxygenating plants will absorb chemicals from the water. Because tap water contains these harmful substances include several oxygenating plants in your pond.
