Koi ponds

Koi ponds originated in Japan. Now, however, they are increasingly common in the United States. At one point you could only see these ponds on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous are at fancy Japanese restaurants, but Koi ponds are becoming increasingly more common and less expensive.

Still, nurturing and raising fish in Koi ponds is a difficult task. A female lays a tremendous amount of eggs and the males fertilize them. The hard part is raising the off spring which are called "fry."

If you are culturing fish in your Koi ponds, you will have a hard time raising high caliber fish. Koi produce a tremendous number of unrecognizable and even genetically defective fry in a spawning. The unwanted offspring must be vetted by the breeder.
